O Google has recently invested in rebranding existing applications and creating new apps from scratch. An example of this was the relaunch of Google Pay and your new Plex account, in the midst of the battle of technology companies, such as Facebook, for the largest share of the financial transactions market. Now, the news is an updated version of Google Phone, the native – and previously exclusive – dialer of the line Google Pixel.
After making the app available on the Play Store for all Android smartphones, ending the exclusivity of Pixel phones, it seems that Google intends to modernize the Google Phone. The discovery was made by 9to5Google, through an advertisement on YouTube announcing the update. The image shows a change in the logo and a new name, Google Call. The logo, by the way, is in the same style as the new icons of the company's apps, minimalist, with its four characteristic colors. Regarding the app, the advertisement announces a caller ID, in addition to spam protection, so that the call can be “answered with confidence” by the user.

The announcement on YouTube may not be enough to confirm that Google Call is coming. But that's not the only indication of an update. Given that Google's productivity team, whose apps have undergone a makeover, is also responsible for the communications sector (which includes Google Phone itself, the SMS app and Google Duo), it's very likely that the changes to the dialer will take effect and Google Call will arrive soon. The question is when.
