Today's Twitter profile YouTube posted a statement saying they will not be doing a Rewind 2020. In the statement, the video-sharing platform noted that they have been doing their Rewind retrospective every year-end since 2010. “But 2020 is different,” they wrote. “And we don’t want to just go on with our programming as if nothing is happening.”

And we know exactly what they mean by that.

Even without Rewind 2020, YouTube thanked its creators for making a better year.

Rewind is a series of videos produced by YouTube that are like a big retrospective of what happened on the platform during the year. The video usually highlights the top YouTube content creators and the videos that were most successful.

In 2019, YouTube changed its approach to Rewind to a montage of videos. This came after the 2018 Rewind debacle, which they even made sure to mention in the note. That year's video was made up of high-production original segments. The Rewind 2018, which was hosted by Will Smith and even featured Brazilian celebrities such as Whindersson Nunes, was widely considered a festival of embarrassment.

Shortly after its release, the video became the most disliked video on YouTube, with 18 million people clicking “dislike.” At the time, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki had to hear from his own children that Rewind 2018 was “cringe”.

Now we just have to wait for things to improve so that YouTube can do Rewind again in 2021. Even if it means the internet will find it a huge embarrassment.
