A OnePlus released, at the end of October, the third open beta of OxygenOS 11.0.1.1 for users of OnePlus 8 e 8 Pro. The new test version fixes bugs in the always-on display system and updates Canvas mode. And it has a side effect: the OnePlus beta erases data from some users who joined the program.

The problem was identified last Saturday (7) and occurs because the company ended up sending a final version of the beta instead of sending the one in the development phase.

This results in some devices being reset to factory settings when installing the update, which accidentally erases user data, a OnePlus forum moderator revealed.

Furthermore, the problem is even bigger because some people who had their data erased by the OnePlus beta also lost access to Google Authenticator, which prevents them from logging into many sites that use two-factor authentication. Without access, it ends up being difficult to recover the device's data backup.

Solution to the problem

Despite the danger, OnePlus says there is already an alternative to avoid the problem. Those who have already received the update but have not yet restarted their smartphone can install a file made available by the manufacturer to avoid data loss.

Other than that, after installing the app, the user must click on the “keep data” option. This way, the cell phone system blocks the new update and, consequently, the device reset. The app is available at link.
