Besides the Mate 40, Huawei today introduced the new Mate 40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro+ and Mate 40 Pro RS. In this text, I will talk about the 40 and 40 Pro+ models, but to know more about the cheaper model, just click here.
Processor and battery
The processor is the Kirin 9000, with a 78-core Mali-G24 GPU. The Pro+ model has up to 12 GB of RAM, and the Pro, 8 GB. Both have 256 GB of capacity (UFS 3.1). The battery has the same capacity of 4400 mAh in both models, with 66 watts wired charging or 50 watts wireless charging.
Additionally, the Kirin 9000's integrated modem features 5G and Wi-Fi 6+. Like the rest of the lineup, the Pro models support Huawei's recently launched M Pen stylus.
Cameras with periscope lens and optical stabilization
The Mate 40 Pro and Pro+ feature quad cameras as their main assets. The 1/1,28-inch sensor (with 1,22µ pixels) is the largest on the smartphone market, alongside Huawei's own P40 line. The main camera is the same as the Mate 40, with 50 megapixels and F/1.9 aperture.
The Mate 40 Pro has a triple camera setup, with the other two cameras being a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with a periscope lens with an F/3.4 aperture and 5x optical zoom, and a 20-megapixel ultra-wide lens with an F/1.8 aperture. The Pro+ model has a quad camera setup, with a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with an F/2.4 aperture with optical image stabilization and 3x optical zoom, an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with a periscope lens with an F/4.4 aperture, stabilization and 10x optical zoom, and a ToF depth sensor.
Additionally, the camera has a slow-motion mode of 480 frames per second with a resolution of 1080p. For those who think that's not enough, it can also capture up to 3840 fps, but with a resolution of 720p. As with the entire Mate 40 line, the lenses are from Leica.
Screen and front camera with ToF
The OLED screen on both models has a 90Hz refresh rate and supports HDR10+. It measures 6,76 inches and has a resolution of 1344 x 2772 pixels, with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. The dual front camera is the same on both models, with 13 megapixels and F/2.4 aperture and a 3D ToF sensor.
The Pro model comes in silver, white, black (glass) and green and yellow (leather). The Pro+ has a ceramic finish with two color options, white and black.
