Sony recently announced the launch of the Spatial Reality display, which allows its users to see objects in 3D without the need to use virtual reality glasses like the Jio Glass or Oculus.

The company first showcased the product at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2020, but under the name Eye-Sensing Light Field Display. However, it was only in October (16) that Sony revealed that its Spatial Reality screen will hit the market in November of this year, with no set date yet.

It is worth mentioning that Sony has also not disclosed whether it will launch the equipment on the global market, including Brazil. For now, Sony's Spatial Reality screen will be available in the brand's official stores in the United States and in the main retail chains in the country.

The Spatial Reality screen is capable of displaying objects in 3D without the need for any type of accessory. The equipment features high-speed eye tracking technology. Therefore, it is capable of detecting any movements you make with your eyes.

Furthermore, its algorithm creates the three-dimensional image immediately. In other words, when you move your eyes, the screen will process the movement and reproduce the 3D image at the same angle, as if you were viewing an object in the real world.

What is the Spatial Reality display and how much will it cost?

Sony’s Spatial Reality is a 15,6″ LCD screen with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, which is the standard 4K resolution. On the other hand, a powerful computer is required to process these images. For example, it is estimated that you will need a machine with a current-generation Intel Core i7 processor and an NVidia RTX 2070 graphics card.

Even though the investment required in the computer is high, it will also be necessary to pay a considerable amount to have access to this technology: the Spatial Reality screen will cost $4.999,99 — the equivalent of R$27.985,97 according to today's exchange rate (19) — for those who want to show off these visuals on their computer.

Although its price is prohibitive, it is worth mentioning that the brand's intention is not to reach the end consumer.

Studios that work with computer graphics or virtual reality games and films are the target audience. Sony itself has already revealed that the screen will be compatible with the main game creation engines, such as Unity and Unreal Engine 4.
